The 37th Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, held in Limassol on May 13, 2026, highlighted the strategic role of Cyprus shipping amid growing geopolitical, regulatory and competitiveness pressures. The event brought together industry and state representatives to discuss the sector’s contribution to economic growth, international connectivity and geopolitical stability, as well as the need to strengthen maritime competitiveness, decarbonization and digitalization.
The meeting also reaffirmed the Chamber’s role in representing Cyprus shipping internationally and supporting the sector’s response to a fast-changing global operating environment. Addressing the meeting, President Nikos Christodoulides underlined that shipping remains a strategic priority for the government, recognizing its contribution to the Cyprus economy and its role in strengthening the country’s international standing.
Describing shipping as “more than an economic sector,” Christodoulides said it serves as a bridge connecting countries and nations, while stressing the government’s focus on European competitiveness, innovation and sustainability.
All distinguished speakers agreed that Cyprus has maintained its maritime standing despite geopolitical challenges, while placing increasing emphasis on renewable energy, green shipping and digital technologies as key priorities for the sector’s future.
